Thank You For The Return Of The Forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

to it's rightful place. As a longtime lurker and occasional posts, I was really upset when the forum was abruptly shut down. I was even more upset seeing the new site. Keep this site open!!! I don't know how but we need to get the word out that this is open. I really don't like the "Soup Nazis" dictating who or who doesn't get to post in Ed's little world over there. Who gave them the right to shut down the old forum so abruptly and without the consensus of all the real people who constitute it. That is what I saw this forum about. Let's hope there is some other way to solve problems like LL and anything else that comes up, if that is possible. Is It?

15 min. ago I was happier than a "pig in slop" to find this site. There were only a few posts. I posted a few notes and intended to get some ZZZZZ's, however, I am STUCK here, watching this forum grow. I really can't belive the response...Jeez...this is awsome!!!!!

-- Rewind (Happy@home.com), March 03, 2000.

Dorado, I'm hoping that by not censoring that the spamming/disruptions won't happen. I believe that the moderation/censorship on the old TB2K was a major cause in getting people angry and pushed them to such behavior. We'll see.

-- Old TB2K forum regular (freespeech@yahoo.com), March 03, 2000.

And how do you propose to stop LL? She caused DeBunker's to go down, then she tried to shut down Biffy's and CPR told her to stop, but she kept on. Bok's chat room is lifeless and it's all due to LL. I am surprised that people are pissed at Ed and the moderators, but they aren't pissed at the individual that caused the disruption.

-- squigley (~~~@~~~.xcom), March 03, 2000.

I'm not at all upset with Ed or the moerators. I only hold out the hope that the format and the substnace can continue hand-in-hand.

-- mr underhill (prancing@pony.com), March 03, 2000.

My administrator Ole TB,

I agree with you in the censorship was a big factor in all the spamming, I also think that perhaps if disruptive people are ignored, maybe they will leave.

When my kids threw tantrums, if I ignored them totally they would eventually stop, but if I got angry with them it was reinforcing their behaviour, and it would go on and on and on.

Anyway, just a thought, it sounds better than banning people because they have a temper tantrum. It calls for alot of control on everyone else's part though.

Laura's peeve was with the old forum and its administration. She's nutty, yeah, but not that nutty. Ain't no one here who's into censoring, her number one complaint. Do I think we'll see the rose here..yes. Do I think we'll see it three hundred times in a row?? No.

Very funny Jimmy !! Some of us do have "DAY JOBS" We get on the net only "after" we have taken care of business..

-- Rewind (happy@home.com), March 03, 2000.

Squigley, I don't know the answer to that one. But as a long time lurker, I will offer my time and energies to help to keep this site open. This site is too valuable to get shut down by LL. Anyone with ideas?

-- (dorado@doco.com), March 03, 2000.

I agree, let someone have a voice and give all the posters the option to sift through and find their own truth, will alleviate the spam posts. LL never bothered me. In a way, I enjoyed her rants. I suppose it was the only way she COULD be heard through the zombie cult censorship. By the time she did her last ditch spamorini the board was ruined anyway from cult mentality. Just hadn't had a decent burial yet.

Thanks for the room! This beats "Ed's world"

-- && (&&@&&.&), March 04, 2000.

I wouldn't say (as Rewind did) that I am as happy as "a pig in slop", but I would say that I am very very happy to see that the forum lives....and that it continues to live in this very easy to use format.

Thanks so much!

-- Deeply grateful (Deeply grateful@grinning from ear to ear.cum), March 04, 2000.

Thanks for putting this board up! This is such an easy format to use, and easy to read and check posts. Thanks guys.

`This site is too valuable to get shut down by LL. Anyone with ideas?'

If it comes to that, you can have the RefugeeBomb2000 forum. It looks like the goals are the same, but most of the traffic is here. I'd have no problems handing the keys over to "you guys" (and stepping gracefully into the shadows) if the need arises. The ezboard software is pretty much immune to the sort of attacks that can bring this ol' horse to its knees, and the forum is all gassed up and ready. I spent a fair amount of time configing it for usability, unintrusiveness, and security before opening the gates, *but*, I'm not highly vested in "ownership". As I said at the other place, I burned out on being a sysop when I ran 3 BBSs 15 years ago.

(In fact, if "Old TB2K forum regular" or Flint or Hoff want to take it over now to keep in reserve just in case, that would be fine with me too, just say the word.)

-- Charles Underwood Farley (chuck@u.farley), March 04, 2000.

If/when the spamming happens, I'll consider getting help to delete it. But that's all the "sysops" would be allowed to do. I don't want a repeat of censorship.

Most Excellent !!!

Just drug in from the salt mines and does it ever feel good to sit down with ya'll,have a nice cool refresher and adjust attitude !!!

Ive never been a notorious poster (definitly no IT guru) mostly on current events and politics. But was devastated when I saw the gestapo roll into town yesterday.

Thank You OTBR for reviving this forum in its free flowing state and allowing us the opportunity to converse without suppression.

And a HEARTY HELL YEA !(with This Land Is Your Land This Land Is My Land in backround) to all the fine folks who stood up to try and right a wrong when they saw it,that in itself may be the very best indication of the company we might expect to come a visitin'. and it is probably the finest thing I have ever witnessed at any forum.

Even with the oral surgery, this has turned out to be one freakin'good day.

A lot of good data can be found on this board. And the wackos can be funny.

-- ROB MERDOCH (MRLOVE99@HOTMAIL.COM), March 04, 2000.

If the reason the old forum was shut down was *only* the spammers them why did they censor some of the most interesting and intelligent people. The last thing I want is to be on a forum where everyone is so polite that they never speak their honest thoughts, and then are censored or deleted if they do.

Just ignore the really horrible spammers and true, they will probably go away. The only time I got really irritated was with the jerk, ages ago, that posted about 5 pages of nothing but f... you.

-- gilda (jess@listbot.com), March 04, 2000.

I've arrived at the promised land! Glory! and all that! Well, anyway, my church choir riots not as much fun as this board...glad I took a new look for current survivor boards and found a list that is comfy to read and use again!

I can't thank you enough; Thank you, OTFR.

I wouldn't worry about LL as long as she is in love. Have you noticed how infrequently she posts lately? Only worry if she falls out of love!

-- OneWhoLurks (owl@vantage.point), April 12, 2000.

You're most welcomed, Laura. I want to thank you too for your contributions, and restraint dealing with trolls that tried so hard to get a rise out of you.

You've shown character.

This forum works well beyond my hopes. A lesson I can pocket.
