Compaq admits 1.7 million computers have glitch

Associated Press, 03/02/2000 Compaq Computer Corp. said that at least 1.7 million of its Presario line of computers contain an "issue" with the floppy disk drive controller, confirming a problem for which the company has been sued, a Compaq spokesman said. Apparently there is a glitch in Presario's floppy disk controller chip that could cause data to be incorrectly written to a diskette. Compaq has a software patch posted on its Web site. The spokesman said that Compaq's Presario computers function as intended and the company had not yet received any customer complaints related to the problem. Houston-based Compaq's shares rose 15/16 to 25 15/16. (AP)
