OT: Taiwan's Pres. abandons 'one China' approach; mainland rulers furious

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

On the Foreign Reports scrollbox in Janes Geopolitical ("Janes Geopolitical") it is being reported that [start quote] Taiwan's President, in remarks made today to German media, has abandoned the one-China approach in favor of a new two-state approach. Mainland rulers are reportedly already reacting furiously, threatening to 'crush Taiwan'. They said the new theory is just one step away from formal declaration of independence. The situation is serious. Is it containable? [end quote]

That area is subscription-only, and I am subscription-inhibited. Nonetheless, I'm sure this will make more mainstream press coverage soon.

All I have to say is much better now than in 5 or ten years. If we wait that long we will be en-screwed, and bigtime. We WILL eventually go to war with china, that's almost certain, I give it a 99.9% probability. with that as a gimmee, now is better. Of course with the king as blunderer/traitor in chief, who knows what will happen. In a better world, the secretive service would get their collective noses out of the kings posterior, review what it means to be a "cop", read the constitution, grow a set of nads, and go arrest that turkey and his entire clique. If they can't find enough probable-cause they need seeing eye dogs and hearing aids, not nifty shades and fm earbuds.

In the words of my grade school history teacher, "better dead than red." That was many years ago, and the world still cannot trust the Chicoms! Twaiwan's quest for democracy should be at the USA'a full attention.

History - Happening before your eyes.

Feel like a "Munich" coming?

Maybe a Soviet-German accord - just days prior to partitioning Poland?

See - today - right now, the Clintons' are in the position of Stalin. Sitting back while Germany annexes close-by lands but united by culture and language (Sudenland, parts of Checkoslovakia, parts of France), then foreign lands, then actually invades.

Thus, China "legally" takes back Hong Kong (Western culture rejoices), takes over militarily Mongolia (western cultre ignores it), increases pressure and control over North Korea (western culture ignores arms violations and nuclear violations and increased threats against South Korea), and pressures the Soviet Union over various border issues (and western culture ignores increasing weakness of former USSR, greater threats from USSR as new hardened leftist leaders take charge. Threatens Taiwan......

Poland at least had cavalry and infantry brave enough to oppose the Naiz and Russian tanks. But the communists still slaughtered over 10,000 Polish officers and civil leaders in the Katyn forest.

Would Hillary complain when the Red Chinese kill/imprison that many million Taiwan citizens?

Guess not. She never complained about those the North Vietnamese killed. The Chinese have killed. And continue to kill. About the milions killed by the Communist Pol Pot regime. About Stalin's deaths.

this is way old info from july 99. it is the cause of the current tiawan/china crisis. this is not current info. so just chill everyone. yes the mainstream press did report it at the time. the janes page was just giving examples for there news service with old info.

As devastating as the damage from a nuclear strike against the US by China would be in the hit areas, the US will still be able to massively retaliate. With something like over twenty times the missile China has to use against us and with three warheads per missile.

And do not doubt that if China hits the US and Klintoon does nothing, that he may suddenly find himself facing "immediate replacement" by either the FEMA Director or the Chief of the JCS.

Hey this is current- top story in over 5 major asian papers http://fsu4.cna.com.tw/CEPO/20000301/cep0301.01

-- nate (ohsh@t.com), March 01, 2000.

Actually, I disagree that this is old info. I don't care when that story came out, there have been plenty of news reports coming out in the last couple weeks that show that the China/Taiwan crisis is at it's peak. With the Taiwan elections coming up in a couple weeks, the outcome could mean war this year. Keep your eyes peeled!

Robert A. Cooke: Did you mention the Panama Canal and chinese control of the huge shipping operation in Freeport, Bahamas. Yes, this is serious.

What are our senators doing right now?

-- I.M. Benedict (prayingdown@theriver.com), March 01, 2000.

Yes, I've mentioned them before - was reassured by Clinton in a press conference that "He trusts them (the Chinese Communists) and these are just business ventures....everything's okay....there is no threat to the Canal, nor to world trade."

Also said something about "peace in our time" too.

By the way, did you realize that the Clintons' political team (Carville, et al) was instrumental in getting the current Panama administration elected? The ones that then sold these naval bases/port facilities at both ends of the Canal to the Chinese?

Did you know that the Clinonts' political team was instrumental in getting the current administration in Isreal elected? The ones that are giving away (selling) the Golan Heights and other territory won by Isreali lives earlier? But the money is from US taxpayers - given to the Palestinians/Lebonese/Jordanians - to give to the Isreali's.

Clinton appears so desperate for a peace treaty (for his legacy evidently!) that he's regularly intervening in these negotiations to "force" the Isreali concessions that will release the land.

Other matters show up - but it is US pressure (from Clinton) and US money on the Isreali's that is driving this. Only the self-preservation of realists in Isreal have prevented the disaster. But of course, the press is presenting the whole thing as if Isreal are the evil restrictive members who don't want peace.

Wish the PLO wanted peace. (They don't.) Wish the land was never lost in the first place - wish the Romans had not destroyed Isreal orignally - ..... wish the original British and UN takeover of Isreal, and removal of the Palestinans had not occurred. There is room for both - if the PLO (and their politcal supporters elsewhere who hate the Jews) would let the settlers stay in peace.

Hard to solve, this one is - as Yoda might say.
