Normal Gains?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Bodybuilding : One Thread

I've been working out for about 5 1/2 months to this point with what seems to be little effect. I'm hitting the gym 3-4 times a week and trying to keep protein intake at about 120-130 grams per day. So far I've put on about 6lbs. Due to all of the hype out there, it's hard to tell if this is a normal rate. I would like to be about 10-15lbs bigger at this point, without adding all of the fat associated with some of the protein gainers out there. Any suggestions for improvement?

You may be getting insufficient carbohydrate intake, insufficient sleep or excessive exercise. Similar plateaus are common for the low-carb, high-protein diets. Only beginners can build muscle and lose fat at the same time.

You are probably overtraining. Sufficient intensity to build muscle, if repeated before the muscle has recovered will result in muscle loss.

Most of the people giving exercise advice or writing books are genetically gifted. They can build muscle with a wide range of techniques that would be counterproductive for anyone else.
