I'm almost afraid to post at this point since I sense a Famous Forum Flaming Fracas about to enliven a dull week-end, but this is an honest question and if any answers are forthcoming it will be from here.

Lasco C-3: the century date was corrected. Fine, but yesterday I noticed the GMT time on site matched our local time. I didn't think that looked right, so I went back to the old print screens of the 100 century date and reviewed them: GMT on those is roughly six hours ahead of us and showed it. Hopped over to the Greenwich site: time is read from your computer and posts GMT reflecting the inquirer's time. What's occuring now on the GMT and the mil site? Is this an upgrade or a patch? Why do I keep asking? Because if this is a cosmetic patch and the old system is still operating in its preferred date mode, the implication is that other systems may be doing so as well.

Hope this doesn't sound too "lame" but I do have the old screens and there is a difference and I really would like to understand. I'd post an example for the purists but I don't know how to do that.Maybe it's just an upgrade but it seems as though it would have been mentioned on the NRL or NIST sites.

You might try looking at:

http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime/mpeg/

And you will see that the Lasco / SOHO images are taken on a continuous basis when in contact with the satalite, and the static postings reflect only one of the more interesting shots from the "movie" the time/date stamp will reflect the Still frame time in GMT, but watch the whole MPEG movie if you really want to see the flares! C2 is the best in my opinion, but all of the movies are real entertaining.
