US Airways to Shut Down? Chairman says Attendants Threatening to Disrupt Service

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

4:41pm EST on FoxNewsTV....Stehphen Wolf, Chairman of US Airways, saying small flight of MD80's OK, continuing to check them. No link. Breaking news. HAH, I knew they would find someone to blame it on....flight attendants.

This "strike or shutdown" thing has been brewing for almost a year, just like the TWA flight attendant strike a few years back. It's a nasty confrontation between labor and management that looks to have only bad outcomes. They've burned all the bridges to the other possibilities.

WW, you may very well be right. That may have been a useless post. It just struck me that they talked about the MD80s in the same breath. Was I overreacting? It just seemed an easier excuse if their planes are in trouble. It would shift the blame in the eyes of their stockholders wouldn't it?

Their rationale seems reasonable...do a planned lockout rather than take a random strike. This lets their customers know exactly when they will and won't be flying... Waiting for unanounced random strikes to destroy customer confidence would be stupid.
