Delta jet makes emergency landing at Newark Airport; no injuries

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A Florida-bound Delta Airlines jet made an emergency landing Wednesday night at Newark International Airport after experiencing unspecified mechanical trouble. police said.

Police from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, said the plane landed safely at about 10:15 p.m., and no one was hurt.

Port Authority spokesman Alan Hicks said Delta flight 2455 from Boston was headed for Orlando, Fla., when it diverted to Newark due to a report of mechanical difficulty.

Hicks said once the plane was on the ground, there were no obvious signs of trouble, but the plane was still being checked out.

There were 18 passengers, plus the crew on board the Boeing 737.
