I am embarrassed--I should know this but I don't: OK, McCain won the Michigan primary because many non-Republicans voted for him. Does this mean that Michigan delegates to the Republican Presidential Convention are legally obliged to vote for McCain.? Are they obliged to vote for him only on the first ballot? Is it a proportional thing--does McCain get the entire MI delegete vote or a percentage equivelent to those who voted for him in the Primary? Thanks.

That's a good question, and I threw it out to the house here, and everyone said "hmmm...good question"...so I'd like to know the answer too! I'm gonna surf around and see if I can find any info on this on the net.

Kritter,

Thanks for your interest. Just after posting, it occurred to me that each state is different. For example, I think the upcoming California primary is a "winner take all" election and altho everyone can vote, only the registered Republican votes count towards delegates at the Republican Nomination Convention.. In other words, McCain could "win" the primary but Bush could get all the electoral votes. Don't quote me on that.
