2x converters

I'm a minolta 500si owner. I'm contemplating on buying a converter. Are converters practical replacements for long focal length cameras? what are the pros and cons? will it lessen aperture?

Yes it will lesten the aperture by 2 stops, this means less light, when you look at your camera you can adjust the apperture setting if you make the setting 2 numbers higher, example f4.5 - f6.7 the higher number lets in less light, but unlike adjusting it on the camera it will change to this as soon as you put the tele-converter between the camera and the lens. Most cameras struggle to focus at this level so you will have to check your camera can handle the reduced light level in your instruction book and check what the apperture is when the lens is zoomed. If you have any queries regarding what your lens will change to email me the settings availible when lens is attached to your camera and what lens it is.
