Small Jet Makes Emergency LandingThe Hartford Courant February 21, 2000
STRATFORD - A small private jet made an emergency landing at Sikorsky Airport Sunday after the pilot reported smelling smoke in the cockpit.
Capt. Sal Manganaro of Newtown landed the jet without incident. Neither he nor his two passengers, who also are pilots, were injured. They used a fire extinguisher to douse the fire.
Airport officials said the problem appeared to be connected with the plane's radar system. They say the twin-engine plane was flying at 19,000 feet on a training run from Nashville, Tenn., when the problem arose. The plane was checked out and given the go-ahead to fly back to Tennessee later in the day.
