I am link challenged, so I throw myself on the mercy of the forum (and I hope I don't hurt myself) to put this info in the correct format. This leads to our local ABC affiliate:

MD-80 To Cleveland Makes Emergency Landing

Continental Plane Was Going From Las Vegas To Hopkins Airport

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Updated 6:29 p.m. EST February 21, 2000 -- A MD-80 passenger jet headed from Las Vegas to Cleveland made an emergency landing in South Bend, Indiana, today after its crew reported problems maintaining level flight.

Continental Flight 1416 carrying 141 passengers and five crew members landed about 4:30 p.m. Authorities said no one was injured.

Safety experts are checking the plane, which is similar to the one that crashed Jan. 31 offshore of Los Angeles, killing 88 people aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 261.

Airlines have been ordered to inspect MD-80s after stabilizer jackscrew problems were found in the Alaska Airlines wreckage.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the problem was in the wing controls, not the stabilizer.

Let's see if we got this straight. They have a problem controlling the wing surfaces, and the problem is in the "controls." (bravo!)

But when there is a problem controlling the stabilizer, the problem is in the jackscrew!

Yeah, it's a "jackscrew" all right. "Jack" the news media around, and "screw" the public out of their right to know the truth about their safety.

Oh you simple folk, planes do this all the time. Don't your remember? Nah, me neither. Just a dumb stump here. Been watching news for years. Never seen anything like it. Usually stories like this would be in the 'News' for days and days. Now it is old news as soon as it happens, that is if anyone reports it to start with. Everything is fine, just watch the movie.
