I am so sick of "tolerance" being the measure for all things. Tolerance is a lesser virtue. It is good to have tolerance. But there are higher virtues.......honesty, justice, mercy....when applied have tolerance wrapped in the meld. Tolerance cut away from the higher virtues, as it's own standard, is not a virtue. It is a vice and it is evil.

Tolerance is evil? Spoken like a true Republican...

I concur. We tolerated Clinton without the higher virtues soundly in place first. We tolerate death row inmates without the higher virtues in place first...Heck our society has "reached out" and tolerated darn near everybody .... at society's own detriment...very sad really.

I loved the comment Nancy...Keep'em coming.

to paraphrase a famous quote:

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to tolerate it."

Of course, the sticky part is determining what is evil.

agreed NH! this new "tolerance" assumes that all ideas/behaviors are to be considered equally as valid/acceptable when in fact, some ideas/behaviors ought not be even discussed in the light of day nor ever given serious consideration. to be totally tolerant you would have to suspend all your opinions and allow someone else to tell you what you accept/don't accept because it is the politically correct who define what is to be "tolerated" at the moment. i doubt republicrat "tolerates" christians, republicans or anyone who has more conservative values than he so he proves himself intolerant.

Yeah! Let's execute those who abort "their" fetuses!

Yeah, the next thing you know the Demopuke/Repuglicrat axis will propose decriminalization of rape (follow the executive leader) and child molestation. What a wonderful world tolerance brings!

Tolerance is a measure of acceptable imperfection. An allowable degree of slop, if you will . In mechanics is is directly attributable to the life span of the function of the mechanism. The friction caused by wear, eventually causes the working parts of the mechanism to become out of tolerance, resulting in reduced performance, and finally failure.

I think we can all see the paroxysms/parodes of this juxtaposition.

People who talk about tolerance as a virtue areinvariably completely and totally intolerant of anybody who believes in the concept of the bible as absolute truth, and Jesus as the only way to God. They will tolerate almost any form of belief and morality except conservative Christianity. Interesting.

carolyn -- Jesus is the only way to God? Gee...I just spoke with God last night and the subject of Jesus never came up. How do you explain that?

-- (@ .), February 21, 2000.

-- (@ .), you said,

"I just spoke with God last night and the subject of Jesus never came up. How do you explain that?"

Lots of people pray to God, but most don't get verbal responses FROM him. What (if you don't mind saying) did God say TO YOU? And please, if it was to blow up your local convience store, list exactly what store in what town and when "god" wanted you to blow it up.

Trying to not become a statistic for prime-time news,

To tolerate some behaviors, like murder, should be intolerable to everyone.

-- JCC (wolverine_in_nc@hotmail.com), February 21, 2000.

What psychiatrist's have to say about tolerance:

Tolerance is a critieria for any addictive disorder.

DSM-IV.

All I can say is the quote posted by Nancy is MY sentiments exactly! We may be forced to tolerate but we certainly need not approve.... We should all let our sentiments to hideous actions be known.....
