We need a new category: Lies, Big lies, and whoppers. There is so much spin, bulls_it, propaganda, and lying by government, industry, commercial interests and trade associations that

a topic like this could be very useful to analyize the figures, people could raise questions, offer evidence and the experts could provide valid answers. How can inflation be lower when fuel prices have been higher since early January? Is it a coincidence that so many planes are having problems when "Planes would not fall out of the sky due to Y2k? Why would oil interests force prices well over $30 per barrel when this could cause a recession and damage their own economies? Perhaps they are already producing at maximum and would rather not see the prices go higher. Embedded issues have been causing an increasing number of problems each week. Are we to assume that there are no problems in the refineries and pipelines? Global warming is real. Billions are being spent by industry, government and special interest groups to convince the public otherwise. Tornados in Georgia in February were unknown until this year. The tornado in Oklahoma last year was a record category 5. We live in interesting times. Public Relations used to be an honorable profession. Used car salesmen are moving up and the cars are really better now.

The most ethical administration in history. You mean like that?

No, he means like because the clocks roll over to 2000, the power grid will go down, the phone system will fail, railway switches will not operate, critical medical supplies will not be able to be manufactered, yada yada yada

Tom you said..Embedded issues have been causing an increasing number of problems each week.

To me this sounds like the very type of news/statement that you are complaining about. I have seen no valid conformation of this other than input from less than credible sources. What are these increasing problems that you speak of? Ill agree that this forum could use a BS screen and posts like yours should be the first to go through the sieve. And please, keep us informed when you discover the cause of the tornados in Georgia.

Well,Folks while You are still, full of Jealousy going after our President for "lying"( if I was President,I would have told You,go soak Your Heads)in that ML Matter,I am much more concerned about all these Taxpayer supported and paid Presidential Hopefulls, that are milling around the Country Side, when they should be punching the Clock ,sitting behind a Desk, doing Work that they were hired for. What is all this Crap, taking off from Work, bullshitting the Public about Matters, that nobody gives a damn about.

Now, now General, time for your meds.

Thanks for the post. Ignore those who apparently think that the government never spins information and that big corporations never lie. They stand on the side of those who favor the continuation of the lies.

Ummm Tom, our Australian Power Gent, Malcolm, has pointed out that his job includes climatic trend studies. He has pointed out that the "Science" of Global Warming, isn't. Or at least qualifies as BAD Science. I have YET to see a validly peer reviewed study that concluded that we had more to do with the general climate temp increases than did solar output, or any of several other options.

Does't it just make you queasy watching the news????? It's not just that they lie, it's that they are so glib. Everything they present is so freaking hollow.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), February 20, 2000.

You oughtta watch the BBC news (WYBE for me). Real news, with quality.

Mara: "Doesn't it just make you queasy watching the news????? It's not just that they lie, it's that they are so glib. Everything they present is so freaking hollow."

LOL. Yes, Mara. You nailed it. "glib and ...freaking shallow" ...and yes I do get queasy watching it. But there is one other thing; there are so many commercials that in a 30 minute broadcast, and after all the fluff and spin, you are lucky to get 1 minute of hard news. ...sdb

Tom:

You said "Tornados in Georgia in February were unknown until this year."

Please go to:

http://www.tornadoproject.com/

and look at the state of Georgia under All Tornadoes. My eyes got tired after counting 25 tornados in February. Georgia is one of the few states that have had tornados in EVERY month of the year. If you want to worry about things, at least get the correct information before you start.

And, "public relations used to be an honorable profession...". Plueeze.

-- Jim Cooke (JJCooke@yahoo.com), February 21, 2000.

Florida also gets lots of tornadoes, every year. Have since they've been keeping records.

Global warming is a lie. In fact, billions are being spent by the government and special interest groups to convince you that it exists.

What??!! Tomatoes in GA in February? What's next, cats living with dogs?? Oh, the Humanity!

Gee Tom, was it your intent to give us an example of Lies, Big lies, and whoppers with the BS in this post. As you stated we need to question all information regardless of the source. As you have so profoundly demonstrated, Bulls**t can arrive from any direction and is not the exclusive property of government and formal news agencies.
