My girlfriend -in Oakland- just said that power had gone down for about 30 minutes, at 10:20-10:50 pm Western time. What happened- anyone know the cause? How widespread was this?

It was probably due to wind. I am a couple hours south of there and we had an outage near here that affected some 15,000 homes. Eight hours later the evening news reported all but a few hundred were back on, with the rest being expected to be OK within the hour.
