Why doesn't my Olympus Brand Smartmedia card actvate the panorama mode in my Olympus 2020

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just purchased a Olympus 2020 and I want to access the panorama option. I have a standard Olympus Smartmedia card that is supposed to support this function. But when I access the menu, the cursor skips right over the panorama function. I goes from FUNCTION, right past PANORAMA to CARD SETUP. I have tried both the 8 mg card that come standard with the camera and an Olympus 32mg card. Am I missing something?

I think Al (see the post immediately below) probably has your answer, but here's an important caveat: Whatever you do, DON'T REFORMAT THE CARD IN A CARD READER ON YOUR COMPUTER! - I did this to an Oly 16MB SmartMedia card, and it wiped out the special Oly formatting that lets it enable the pano mode. - There's a Windows program floating around out there that'll let you undo this sort of disaster, called "Dreaming of Brazil", but I haven't taken time to hunt it down and try it personally.

I had the same problem. It won't work unless you turn on the LCD display first. Eg. if the LCD screen is off and you press the menu button, you will not be able to access the pano mode. First, turn on the LCD screen, then press the menu button, should work then.

Drove me nuts at first, just a minor quirk. Awesome camera otherwise.
