I would like to know what people think will happen on this date? Thankyou for your input in advance.

But the solar storm is coming first.

NOTHING will happen on 2/29 except some receipts will say March 1.

Since y2k effectively didn't happen, that means that nothing bad will ever, ever happen, ever again, for as long as the earth moves around the sun.

David:

There will undoubtedly be a few problems that will be fixed as they pop up but I can't imagine that the general public will even notice them. Every leap year (not just this one) some programs have problems and I expect that you'll see the same level of disruption that we saw during the last leap year - none.

David,

In terms of the glitchy computers, I expect that any programs that are *already* generating bad data (or handling same) may crash. For some few programs that are already in trouble, this date may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Which computers will these be? Your guess is as good as mine. There may be minor glitches, such as problems in the processing of building permits, or more serious ones, such as the continuing problems with processing child support checks ... a lot depends on the true health of any given system.

What I don't expect is that many new problems will be added. That is, systems that have been working well should continue to work well, unless influenced by a virus set to execute on that date, or other such nonsense.

As for precautions, I continue to maintain preps and will do so throughout the year because it is the prudent thing to do, not because I'm afraid that anything will happen on any specific date.

I agree with the post mentioning the solar flares and the potential connected with them. A bit more immediate.

As for 2/29, I suspect there will be some small and/or hidden problems...possibly a few business applications, bad dates on credit cards, etc.

At this time, IMHO, not a big deal.

David,

This is OT but where in Washington you are from? My parents lived on the Colville Reservation for a couple years. Are you involved in the native culture and do you follow the celebrations? I have been wondering if John Manuel is still around.

tt:

Bring on the STRAW? What does this mean? What media lies have been told about 2/29? Except for LL and a few others, what evil mouthed pollies are you refering to? What's going to come now or later? I'm baffled.

I am confused by the straw posting. Could someone please explain this to me?

-- David Whitelaw (Dande53484@aol.com), February 19, 2000.

The straw that broke the camel's back is an old saying. In this case, consider a computer program, such as one of the ones at a midwestern child support agency (which shall remain unnamed for the moment) that has a heretofore unfixed glitch in its program. Each day, the errors compound themselves, and the bad data is sent on to other mainframes.

Feb 29th *might* be the straw that breaks that camel's back, or crashes the computer program. Feb 29th alone wouldn't do it, but it's another error on top of a bunch of errors.

Bring on the straw means, "Let's get it over with!" or "Let the other shoe drop."

Thankyou. I just didn't get the straw thing till now.

Just curious. Exactly how many dates have come and gone and Nothing Happened. I've been listening to the sky is falling for two years and nothing out of the ordinary is happening, has happened, etc., I Was A Fool, wasn't the only one who is/was a fool.

My biggest Problem. What am I gonna do with that extra Day this Month, bad enough that I have to feed myself every Day,without havin'to cope with anodn.:):)

My husband told me his comp. guru at the office just told everyone that all jobs were due on the 28th, that no orders would be done on the 29th as far as the comp. knew. My question is this: Will he get paid for 16 hours on the 28th(hehe, nothing like overtime!) or will he just be working on the 29th for his pleasure?:)
