With all due respect, xyz, this is one of those "speculative" disasters. Note the use of all the if...then statements. I would be more concerned about sunspots, which is more of an immediate threat.--I'm off to pull on my tinfoil hat, now.

Actually, I was being "tongue in cheek" about this one....but speculative, it ain't....It's for real...It's like the California superquake,....just a question of when??
-- xyz (exforumregular@lurker.com), February 19, 2000.
Yeah. I don't dispute that, but it's on my worry list at the same levels as concern as:killer earthquakes from the New Madrid Fault (the Midwest is due -- last major one in 1811 (or 13?)
Getting skin cancer from the thinning ozone layer (I do wear a sunscreen with 30spf in the summer, now)
Getting poisoned by fat substitutes (e.g., Olen)
Getting poisoned by Canola Oil
Getting a brain tumor from Nutra Sweet
All of these things are possible, and I even had a chat with one of the managers at the local Wally World about not piling the Sauder furniture display up on platforms, lest we have an earthquake.
I probably should've been wearing my wool hat, instead of my tinfoil one, when we had that discussion.

Thanks--very interesting. (So I guess we are closer relatives than we thought)

And let's not forget asteroid impacts. A dinosaur debacle.
