I've been a lurker on this forum for a year now. This is a great forum with (mostly) good people who are only interested in protecting their families. I am sickened at the behavior of Lady Logic. My feelings exactly Jeanne.

Thanks to Diane and all the Sysops who attempt to keep this great "find" on the internet a somewhat civil place in cyberspace.

Differences of opinion are welcomed and debated intelligently, by the vast majority of the "guests" on this forum.

It's a shame some folks don't realize everyone here are "guests" and when the host and so many of the other "guests" request you to go away, and you don't, something is seriously amiss.

Y2K Pro, Ladylogic, and any other trolls or spammers, PLEASE pay attention, do something else to amuse yourself, GROW UP!

Let us enjoy the discourse we choose and leave us alone.

Well, I'm not sickened, only annoyed. America is the last great bastion for spammers. Those who are enlightened will tolerate SPAM for a limited time only, restrictions may apply. The remnant will gripe and not be satisfied. Ever...

Meanwhile, I'll download some more files from other sites and check back on the stamina of the TB hardliners. 8^)

Just a nitpick---my understanding of the term "spammer" is that it describes someone who is selling something in an inappropriate way on the internet. I don't think there was ever much huckstering on TB2000.

If this is true, then LL is not a spammer. She is a troll (a provocateur whose posts are intended to be irritating, obnoxious and disruptive) and at times she is a flamer (someone whose posts are insulting, hostile and crude). Often her flames are in response to someone else's flame (a flame war).

SPAM is any unwanted material, as in the Monty Python skit in which the waiters keep offering various SPAM dishes after the customers have made it clear that they don't want any. It's intellectual harassment.

To cause a newsgroup to be flooded with irrelevant or inappropriate messages. You can spam a newsgroup with as little as one well- (or ill-) planned message (e.g. asking "What do you think of abortion?" on soc.women). This is often done with cross-posting (e.g. any message which is crossposted to alt.rush-limbaugh and alt.politics.homosexuality will almost inevitably spam both groups). 3. To send many identical or nearly-identical messages separately to a large number of Usenet newsgroups. This is one sure way to infuriate nearly everyone on the Net.

Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it.

Some people claim that the troll is properly a narrower category than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial.

My 2 cents: Spamming boards just raises peope's ires and doesn't do much good.

If you don't like a board, its contents, the people, or what it represents, at least be courteous and abide by the golden rule. Let it be, DON'T ANTAGONIZE and DON'T GO BACK. This applies to TB2000, Biffy, or any other board.
