Cleveland overpays workers millions CLEVELAND The city overpaid municipal workers this week because of a computer glitch in its payroll system.

City employees who have direct-deposit accounts were mistakenly paid twice.

The workers included garbage collectors, dog wardens, police officers, firefighters and Municipal Court employees, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. Cleveland officials were not immediately able to say how many employees got two checks, but the newspaper said the figure was in the hundreds.

Bill Patmon, City Council's finance chairman, said the overpayments totaled more than $2 million. The city said Thursday all accounts had been corrected.
