AOL IS PROVIDING ABYSMAL SERVICE!!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I'm sorry, but how long does it take to decide that the disruptions here are no less a federal offense than that perpetrated by the hackers who took down ebay, Amazon, etc.

One Sysops asks that we email three different locations at AOL, because "Abuse" doesn't seem to take things seriously.

Now I know why I've tossed the last 5 CDRoms they sent me.

This is news ?

Hasn't AOL always provided an abysmal service ?

America Off Line Americas Outer Limits

nah, not news, programmer, but since they're supposed to be monitoring I thought this might be a good way to voice a complaint.

The only good thing about AOL is I met my hubby in cyberspace on it 5 years ago. Switched as soon as we met LOL They are quick to kick off kids who scroll on a chatroom so why aren't they taking action in this case? Maybe they are afraid to deal with adults?

I can't imagine why anyone sticks with AOL. Their pages are cluttered with ads and gaudy in design. And every few minutes AOL tries to dump your connection.

Just a thought. AOL probably has no interest in assisting a forum like this one that regularly assaults large corporate interests including the mass media. Remember that CNN and AOL are contemplating a merger? Given the subject matter here, the government may be just as unlikely to help...So maybe self sufficient action of some sort-- e.g., blocking the poster--is needed. Any suggestions?

Just a poor old web-tv user here, but I'll settle for this rather than AOL, any day of the week. I've many friends with AOL, and it's hard to send them the time of day let alone a message, forward a site, page or a greeting card. At first I thought it was me and my cheap set up, or my stupidity. However, it wasn't long before I realized AOL means, Always Off. Haven't figured out the "L" yet.

My theory is, all the rejects from other ISP's (banned for breach of TOS and illegal activity) end up on AOL :-P

My clients know how I feel about AOL. They laugh when I offer water or a beverage...their CDs make pretty good coasters, LOL.

AOL = AOHELL

AOL = AOHELL, stopped paying but they haven't booted me (yet)

IMNotSoHO, Fire their lazy butts!!!

Call your long distance provider and ask for a free 30-day trial thru their isp. I did thru AT&T and it was a HUGE improvement. Now I'm on cable, which if in your area, I would HIGHLY recommend.

Service -- don't need no stinkin service. It's the bottom line, man! I was an early AOLer, but as soon as I got half-way internet savvy, I went over to Earthlink. Not perfect, but mucho mucho better.

Actually, I liked AOL better in pre-CD-ROM days. They were promoting everywhere with floppy disks. I recycled them. I saved a lot of money by not having to buy as many new ones. :o)

I will ask again for comments on Juno. I haven't found anything wrong with them so far. 9.95/mo. Too good to be true?

I LIKE the AOL service, as do most of it's 22 million users. Sorry you've had worse experiences. No business can please everybody.

P.S. Since I bought a really good computer, I NEVER get kicked off.

I was having LOTS of AOL disruptions and access problems with my PCI buss modem. Since I changed that modem out for a US Robotics AT buss modem ($85) I have had less than 2 such experiences (in 5 months). It's not always AOL that causes the disruption. It can be YOUR hardware that is problematic, as well.
