-- Charles (chatcher@hcnews.com), February 17, 2000.

Done...for the umpteenth time. Why doesn't anything ever get done with these complaints? This time I asked for the persons name in charge of such complaints, and a list of what they do when they receive them, and what is specifically being done about this habitual abuser.

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), February 17, 2000.

Many thanks to all of you for taking the time to make a complaint. I know it's a pain but the more who complain, the better chance we have of getting this person TOS'd. If anything comes of it, you'll know the instant after we do.

-- - (Sysops@sore.fingers), February 17, 2000.

I sent one.

Also for AOL it's TOSGeneral@aol.com.

LadyLogic's name is Laura at LadyLogic46@aol.com.

Last time I talked with several people at AOL, they said we had to leave up threads for at least 24 hours so they could go look. It's the only way to get her tossed.

Also give them the Forum URL...

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr (pic), near Monterey, California

I sent the following letter to abuse@mindspring.com and abuse@aol.com:

User 165.247.212.186 from mindspring, and LadyLogic46@aol.com

are habitual abusers on our web based forum that I have reported already in the past. Please, tell us how you plan to handle this situation. You may view examples of their work at

http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=TimeBomb%202000%20%28 Y2000%29

-- Deb M. (vmcclell@columbus.rr.com), February 18, 2000.

Oops, forgot to mention, I also sent a copy of a previous admission of spamming by one of these two social retards. They may have finally put out enough rope to hang themselves...

Thanks Sysops - great job!

I'm #'s 26-28. Sent one to each address given last night. Pam

-- Pam (jpjgood@penn.com), February 18, 2000.

I'm not convinced these letters will be honored. I've dealt with the abuse/security folks at various ISP's, and one must not only provide an IP number, but a time-stamped [time verified] log that shows exactly what time the IP number was used. This, of course, makes sense, as for instance 165.247.212.186 may have been used by an innocent on the date in question before the IP number was captured by TB2000 logs. Similarly, specifying just an E-mail address won't do. Why WOULD anyone use their real E-mail address to spam a forum? [just a question to myself there.]

I don't know how complete the information is captured by the TB2000 logs, but it seems to me that this is the ONLY information that can be reviewed by the abuse/security people.

It also seems that at least SOME ISP's have 800 numbers to report denial of service attacks. Here's something I received from one ISP in response to one of my abuse complaints:

************************************************* IF THE USER IS CONNECTED TO YOUR SYSTEM OR IS CAUSING A DENIAL OF SERVICE ATTACK *************************************************

Please call [ISP and number blocked out because of irrelevance], option #2, then option #3, then option #1 to reach our Internet Abuse Investigations Team, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our first priority will be to stop the attack so you may return to normal business operations.

***************************** CERTIFICATION OF TIME STAMPS: *****************************

To help us accurately trace the originating connection, we request reporting sites certify the accuracy of any timestamps provided in logs or headers reported by its systems. Please indicate the timezone the logs are reporting or that the timezone is correct if shown in the logs.

Fantastic job, Diane, Chuck, et. al.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), February 19, 2000.

I'm moving this thread to the top so people can get the address if they wish to attempt complaining yet again about this most recent attack (11 a.m. MST 2000/02/20).

I'll also take this opportunity to thank the SYSOP's for all the hard work they have done throughout. It is greatly appreciated.
