Nothing happened in my little world

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi All,

Nice to pop in and see whats going on in the trenches. I have been reading a few threads today looking to see if Y2k had happened for anyone anywhere. There looks to be some minor accounting glitches and rumors of oil refinery problems. I know that fuel prices have gone up mightily in some parts of the country.

HOWEVER - I would just like to say that here in my little world NOTHING HAPPENED. Prices have not gone up, power has not gone out - NOTHING. I live in rural Northern Cal. I can safely say that Y2k has not affected me personally (or anyone I know) one iota. Perhaps it might at some point in the future, but so far - nada.

I have very few regrets about the 9 months I spent prepping. All in all I have about the same number of regrets I normally would for any other 9 month span in my life. As always, I am humbler than I was the year before and more appreciative of all the blessings I have received.

I confess to being quite shocked that nothing happened and mightily confused that the CIA and the Navy College predicted such dire things. But hey - alls well that ends well.

In truth, so far, 2000 has been one of the happiest years of my life. So here's to the bliss of humility and the joy of being confused.

River, Wild trip, huh? You know TPTB were just as nervous as we were. But, as you say, life is good.

In spite of all the worry and concern, I definitely prefer the (mostly) non-event. Sure, some issues may turn up somewhere at some time. IMHO, it doesn't serve any useful purpose to sit around wringing our hands. Just stay prepped and watch developments.

Thanks for a candid and refreshing post.

Be thankful that your gas prices did not rise. Ours have. :(

Glad to see you stopped by again! Don't be a stranger. It's always nice to hear from a forum veteran. Prepping for Y2K, we all definitely shared one of life's weird experiences. You were an inspiration, telling people they could prep without a bunch of money.

I, too, have not regretted my preps. In fact, they are so useful. I love having the convenience of a mini-mart downstairs. I'm never out of anything. I will stay prepped, if for no other reason than the sense it makes out here in the country. I've been snowed in and just plain ol' too lazy to go to town. Discovered a new way to live. Quite happy with it.

River! Isn't it wonderful? Isn't life grand? It was truly a Happy New Year at my house!

I will never take my fresh running water, my electricity, my refrigeration, my sewage treatment for granted again.

This is one day when we are sure glad we have a few extra things. Stopped by the store on the way home from work, parking lot was jam packed, no parking spaces. Were expecting 6-12 inches of snow over the next couple of days. Sure was nice to not have to fight the crowds at the store, and just drive on home. You don't even want to know what it looked like at the gas station. Glad I didn't have to stop there either.

River Soma, good to know you are still around.

R,

I liked your last line. As T. S. Eliot said in "East Coker"-- "....humility is endless". Glad things go well for you.
