Value of Iron Bridge Sign?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

I have a cast iron bridge sign. It is large, about 30" X 48" Is 1/2" thick and very heavy. It was originally on top of an iron bridge indicating the manufacturer of the bridge. The sign was given to me as a joke and I keep telling my wife it is valuable. If I lose on this the sign goes to the junk yard. Is it worth anything? Thanks for any and all replys.

The lettering on the sign reads:

Built By The Berlin Iron Bridge Co. East Berlin Conn. Pat. Apl. 16th, 1878 And Pending

Norman, tell her Mike says it's worth $150.00 ;~)). It might be an idea to check the history of the bridge, things like did some famous person "Cut the ribbon" to open the bridge or has any famous or infamous event happened there. All these things effect the value of items.
