(OT) Australia - Platypus goes walkabout

Dear Squirrel King,
Please be informed of our mission failure overnight when the platypus got himself bushwacked and captured by the enemy. However our intense training did produce a pleasing end to the drama with his early release. We proudly affirm he did neither squeal, squeak or blab during the interrogation.

A platypus found waddling along the main street of a Victorian country town overnight has been returned to its watery home.

Police said the duckbill was spotted by a security guard on patrol in Wangaratta, in the state's north-east, about 1.30am (AEDT).

The platypus was taken to the local police station where it was put in a cardboard box.

A vet dropped by, identified the creature as a mature male and gave the all-clear for him to be released into the nearby Ovens River.

"The platypus was last seen paddling happily away in the river," said Senior Constable Dave Campbell

You misspelled platypus ... it's actually "really wierd looking four-legged squirrel-type creature" in the usual New Zealand language.
