Source: Xinhua English Newswire Publication date: Feb 09, 2000

Bolivia has suspended oil supply to Chile, a daily amount of 26,000 barrels, due to a rupture in pipeline, said reports reaching here from Bolivian capital of La Paz.

The rupture in the Sica-Sica-Arica pipeline nine days ago has been partially restored. And the oil supply to Chile could be resumed a month later, Bolivian officials were quoted as saying.

Authorities said about 5,000 barrels of leaked crude has contaminated the Desaguadero River and the lakes Uru Uru, Poopo and Soledad, affecting farm lands, sea birds, fish and insects.
