Do you work out? How?

a daily walk is about the size of my exercise, other than help with the house work here. i am faithful with my walks though.

I need to get back into good daily workouts... I've been terrible since last summer about working out... I do it, but not with daily consistency *sigh* There have been times in the past where my weekly running mileage would be in the 20 -- 25 mile range plus I would be working out with weights, etc. and also going on long walks with my wife and taking care of little kids. Now those little kids are teenagers and I keep getting distracted at work and end up working through lunch and not getting down to the Y for a workout, etc...

I can sympathize with your after-workout-aches because Saturday I went to a gym and worked out with my son (only fourteen but he is a weightlifter and a high school wrestler) and I hurt so much on Sunday!

Hey Piper, let's start a virtual workout club, see how many people who visit your discussion forum will start working out... Okay everybody, we're gonna go out for a three mile run today... hustle! hustle! You can do it!

Good plan, Jim. Except for that running part. No running. Swimming good. Biking good. Running bad. Very bad.

Piper, guess we are opposites in exercise... I love running, enjoy the physical motion (once I get warmed up and assuming I am in shape) and enjoy the psychological aspects, letting my mind wander freely (which is why I prefer running on fields, bike paths, beaches, etc. where I don't have to maintain a constant watch for motor vehicle traffic)... but I find swimming totally boring... not splashing in the water swimming, but lap swimming... so boring... I tried it a few times when I had some knee problems and couldn't run... fortunately it was exhausting enough that I had to pay attention to what I was doing (I'm not exactly a trained swimmer) so I didn't drown from boredom... Do real swimmers get to the point where the motions are as automatic as running?

Okay, you swim and I'll run... Now if only we could find a bicyclist we could enter a team relay triathlon.

See, for me, lap swimming is relaxing. I need music playing, of course, but it's just time for me to think, formulate my thoughts, stuff like that. And try to keep from drowning, that's always important. I'm just not a runner. Could be my problematic knees that causes that though. Besides, I always feel I've done more when I swim because I feel the fatigue in not only my legs but also in my arms and my back.

Not to say that I'm any good at it, mind you. I wouldn't be great in a triathlon. :o)

You know what? I'm not into working out. I have a philosophy - "No pain, no pain." It makes sense to me.
