Ot-TB200 mentioned in NY Times article RE: DoS attacks!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Forgive that I am link impaired and do not have an on-line subscription with the newspaper. That being said, the mention is on page c-6, the business section of today's paper, street edition.

The quote is as follows: "'Maybe Billy Gates has a NEW product under wraps that will protect all those poor e-businesses', said one such submission to the Time Bomb 2000 discussion group on Lusenet at www.greenspun.com. A posting signed Mad Monk offered a rebuttal that was not exactly a defense: 'I doubt that Microsoft has sufficiently good security products to halt the denial of service.' Mad Monk continued 'My personal suspicions are foreign nationals, possibly with some covert foreign government support', only to be rebuked by 'Kritter" who said 'just don't forget, there really ARE roving bands of idiot kids who live to do stuff just like this'. Kritter's conclusion 'this is the work of bored teenagers, moronic hacks, plain and simple'."

So, who is monitoring our board for the times?? Shills? Not that I personally really mind, but it is interesting, isn't it?

BTW the article was written by Barnaby Feder.

Futureshock,

It's said that Gore, Gates, and lots of other famous folks visit here. And that gets back to the earlier question you posed about some of us who are a little paranoid about our personal information ... lots of "bosses" (who will never admit to it in public) surf through this board, including mine.

Crap! This means that if establishment media are aware of TB2000, then it will soon lose one of its core traits...honesty through anonymity...it will become jammed and crowded, much like a nice little neighborhood restaurant or tavern once "they" discover it.

I'll stay awhile longer, but i'm packing my bags.

Heeheeheeheheheheheh, TPTB have, double-diapered, been monitoring TB2K for a long time now.

The Forum probably is in no danger of being swamped by posting suits. It takes out-of-the-box balls to post here!

And the lurkers get their fix and amusement, and never know if fellow eyeballs are just one cubicle away ... ;^)

John --

To crowd out the forummites, the journalists would have to have something to contribute!! Clearly the consensus here is that WE are the ones doing the investigative work ......

I certainly hope that Monk's and Kritter's newfound celebrity status doesn't go to their heads! ;-)

-- Brooks (brooksbie@hotmail.com), February 11, 2000.

*Grin*

I believe it's Barnaby Feder that monitors sites like TBY2K & GICC.

Barnaby Feder had the Y2K beat (or part of it). He wrote a bunch of pieces about it, some good, some not. I had a brief e-mail exchange with him where he said that he was having a hell of a time getting the Metro Desk interested in Y2K, and that the city was being uncooperative. He's probably a pretty good egg, if you like eggs...

TB2000 qualfies for "all the news that's fit to print".

I can't believe I have just been quoted in the New York Times. Thank God I was saying something coherent! ;-)

Autographs on request ... My public awaits me.

So who was it that said that this forum was dead!!?? It looks pretty bushy tailed, alive and kickin' to me, don't it?

Congratulations Mad Monk and Kritter !

Beware everyone else, including me, the only Y2K soul South of the Equator (that's half the world, in case no one noticed!)

Take care

Pshannon, thanks for the background on your exchange with Feder. I'd always wondered why there wasn't more coverage of Y2k in the NY Times. Feder did a decent job, but he may have been one of many journalists all fighting to get their pieces printed. Remember that it is not "All the news that's fit to print," but "All the news we decide to print."

So now you know why Clinton wants to fund the web-police (troublemakers/instigators/philibusters/etc.), if he puts enough of them on TB2000 ... maybe they can get us all defending and arguing amonst ourselves ... and ending up with a network of profanity, putdowns, accusers, and finally a site turned into kaos... I've run into a few of them already... most of us know who they are... I think we should let them say what they are going to say and ignore them...we shouldn't even perpetuate their level of intelligence with a response! It hard not to respond to idiots and troublemakers...but our response makes them happy because they have succeeded in breaking our focus on the original intent of this forum.

What do think? Should we fight them by ignoring them? They are going to break us up...they are going to destroy hours of productive working hours in each one of our lives if we don't treat them as junk mail...

When I go to my PO Box I don't look at the trash(junk mail) I just dump it on the way out the door!

I can't believe that anyone who post's on this board didn't realize that it's monitored by probably every I.A. known. Along with some very high profile people.

You also realize that we live in a country that still advocates freedom of speech. Proof of that lies in the fact that our buddy 'zog' hasen't had an unfortunate accident. If you know what I mean.

Let us not forget all the fine posters from NZ and Aussie land that post here. I do believe that there maybe one or two from SA also.

MM and Kritter, wow you folks have your names in the NY lights! I am impressed!

If Bill Gates is reading this, BUY A MAC!!!!!!

I thought you guys realised that this place was being watched. After all, when Ed Yourdon was in front of the Senate, during the roll-over and other times this forum has been publisized. Gotta wonder what they think about the kind of language Hawk uses against me?

It would be interesting to know what they think of the different subjects expressed here.

**waving my hand*** Hi Hi! I'm up for an interview! (Just spell my name right!)

Cherri, They probably give each other the high five when Hawk trashes you.

Welll, I read an Associated press article in my local paper .. front page about a month ago that mentioned TimeBomb 2000 quite a bit. Especially quotes form Hoffmiester.
