Pentagon Checking Its Computers

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Defense Department said Thursday that all of its computers with Internet access will be checked to verify that they were not used as unwitting agents in the massive attacks this week on Internet electronic commerce sites.

Rear Adm. Craig Quigley, a Pentagon spokesman, said there is no evidence to suggest that Pentagon computers were involved in the attacks, but the hard drives of the more than 1 million computers with Internet access will be checked anyway.

``We just think it's a prudent thing to check,'' said Quigley, noting that the Defense Department is the largest computer user in the federal government.

The computers will be checked for the presence of ``distributed denial of service'' tools like those used in this week's attacks. Hackers can hide these tools, known as daemons, on hundreds or even thousands of third-party computers and then trigger them from a remote location to launch simultaneous attacks on a single target.

Well, don`t quite know just what to think about this one! could it be that they are worried that they may have been effected by the hacking? Or worse yet could they be afraid that someone in their little gang was somehow responsible?...You know it`s time to be very scared when the Defence Dept. can`t trust THEMSELVES! hummmm???

As I said before, John Deutsch did this at home on his personal computer, in coordination with Win Ho Lee acting from Los Alamos.
