OT:It's Possible

............ from the strategic writings of two colonels of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In a book entitled "Unrestricted Warfare," published in 1999 by Col. Qiao Liang and Col. Wang Xiangsui, it says: "If the attacking side (i.e., China) secretly musters large amounts of capital without the enemy nation being aware of this ... and launches a sneak attack against its financial markets, then after causing a financial crisis, buries a computer virus and hacker detachment in the opponent's computer system in advance, while at the same time carrying out a network attack against the enemy ... financial-transaction network, telephone-communications network and mass-media network ... this will cause the enemy nation to fall into social panic, street riots and a political crisis."

Is the attack being tested? Yahoo,Amazon etc.

I followed the works of MART IN LIBICKI, but I never implemented what I learned.

Ok, one more site of MARTIN LIBICKI'S works. I admit to reading them, but that's it, I didn't try anything.

I had also thought that this might be a test, but I would expect a test to be against a limited number of sites...unless the test is to determine vulnerabilities. In that case, the attacker must consider that the sites will be hardened in the near future...and similar attacks may not work as well.

Today the "attacks" -- if they are not simply routers going out, as pliney the younger proposed -- "advanced" from merely commercial sites to a brokergae site: e-trade went down. My inclination is to look for a technical explanation, but the news stroeis this morning amplified the "hacker" explanation by declaring that the hacking was conducted through "large computers" in Boston and New York.
