Chicago Options Exchange Halts Trading The Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) - Trading was halted Monday on the Chicago Board Options Exchange due to technical problems, officials said. The exchange announced the halt on its Web site, but did not elaborate on the reasons for it.

Various news reports quoted an exchange spokesman as saying it was unrelated to the water main break that caused some flooding in downtown Chicago, though that could not be immediately confirmed. Calls to the CBOE seeking comment went unanswered.

It was not clear when the CBOE would resume trading, though Dow Jones Newswires reported that it would begin again by late morning.

Trading at the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was unaffected.

The CBOE is the world's largest options exchange.

I'm new to looking at the stock market. Do you see any significance in CBS Market Watch International Indices not showing any updates for China since 1/28/00, Hong Kong since 2/3/00, Singapore since 2/4/00, Taiwan since 2/1/00?

Pam,

Just a guess here, but this last weekend was the Chinese New Year. Could be the Indices in question are not being updated due to the markets being closed for the holiday....

Probably because of MAJOR broken water main in downtown Chicago. FED couldn't physically transfer cash for a while because of this. They mentioned it frequently on CNBC today. It was discussed on this thread.

Conspiracy Theory was on last night. Per its plotline, we need to be combing the headlines for any financiers or other movers-and-shakers who may have mysteriously drowned in Chicago yesterday. LOL!

Silly movie, but still fun...
