NEW DELHI (Feb. 7) XINHUA - The Delhi government has sealed 11 polluting industrial units in East Delhi for "not having effluent treatment mechanism."

A Delhi government release said Monday that these units were releasing highly polluted effluents consisting of acids, heavy metals and poisonous matters like cyanide.

The degree of pollution was such that the traces of the effluents consisting of chrome waste bearing water was visible in the drains of the area, the release added.

The units were closed after the vigilance squad comprising officials from the Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and police conducted raids.
