Thirty French tourists rescued from burning Nile boat

CAIRO, Feb 6 (AFP) -

Thirty French tourists were evacuated Sunday from a cruise ship which caught fire and was destroyed Sunday in the Nile River by the southern Egyptian city of Luxor, police said.

Police said there were no casualties from the fire which broke out at 4:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) while the ship was docked at Luxor. The ship sunk, they added.

It was the second fire aboard a Nile cruise ship this year.

On January 10, the four-decker Senuhi II caught fire and a Belgian passenger, Suzanne de Wandel, 76, who was found unconscious in her cabin, died of smoke inhalation after being taken to hospital.
