Are there any confirmed month end batching glitches out there??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This question/prediction was very prevalent a short time ago, and I am wondering how these month-end jobs went. Our company just closed our first month without a glitch, and my bank account has been accurate to the cent since the beginning of the year. All of my bills have been accurate, but I do make note that I have not received any forms from the IRS. Hmmm.

I know I am somewhat of a polly, but I ask this question in earnest. I did not think there would be month-end problems, considering the trillions of financial transactions that take place daily, and the fact that so far as I can tell, not many folk are experiencing problems as a result.(I make note of cybercash, screwed-up payrolls in canada and elsewhere, and acknowledge and pray for those people that have been affected-knowing it could have been me).

I keep an open mind for doom, but on the month-end batch jobs I ask Where's the BEEF?

Citibank issued me a "Corrected Statement" for January, 2000, today, because the first statement left off all the electronic transactions. Oddly enough, they did NOT include the now-standard "this is not a Y2K glitch" disclaimer which apparently is now required by federal law (grin). This has never happened before, in over 15 years. Coincidence? If you think it is a coincidence then I have a real great investment to sell you; it is a bridge in New York.

If this is not a confirmed month end batch glitch then I don't know what you are looking for. And by the way, Citigroup probably spent more than the GNP of Poland on preventing the Y2K bug from biting them....... Fortunately this glitch does not look fatal or permanent. Just aggravating.

Yeah. Monthly reporting for one system virtually didn't exist. Almost all the required reports could not be produced. Did a couple by hand and are fending off the users while trying frantically to get the other programs fixed...

No, not my system. But the missing information goes into client billing.

I have all of my bills electronicaly transferred. My first mortgage was paid 4 days late. My second mortgage was paid(funds withdrawn) on time but the bank sent me a warning notice that they had not received payment. My power company has had repeated billing problems that have yet to be straightened out. I have not received my Fed. or State forms, some W2's not here yet.

Which standard do you want to use before calling it an EOMBJ problem?

Thank you for your responses. And I am sorry that these glitches are causing inconvenience for you; they do sound like they are y2k related.

Yet, I only got three responses to this query, and it does not sound like there are widespread problems which could lead to anything more than a 1 or 2 outcome-they sound like a BITR-I am still wondering where the cascading cross-defaults are in the banking system and would really like to know what percentage of the american population has actually had a negative y2k experience-a highly unanswerable question, yes, but considering how many lurk and post here, three people does not seem like an awful lot-1%?

The problems you describe are being covered up, so it's doubtful that you will find any evidence they are there. If you look at the bigger picture, it becomes pretty clear that we're headed for far worse than a BITR.

I received charges on one account I haven't used in a year. My son is replacing the computer for the small business he works at because y2k has so badly screwed the data up they can't hardly function with it. They did no remediation and the system is at least 5 years old. The big thing I have noticed is the slow down in mail. It took 5 days for one piece to get here from Portland and I am in the same state. The amount of mail for 7-10 days dropped off to almost nil. 4-5 days with no mail. This is highly unusual because we have a business here also. I called the post office and they assured me everything is fine. It has started to pick up again.
