OT-Does anyone know anything about Micros Point of purchase and credit card processing machines?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I posted this as OT because I ahd the same problem in October at the same establishment.

I use a debit card for some large purchases. The establishment in question is an upscale restaurant. When I went to pay in October and again last night, they came back with my card and said it was declined. I checked immediately with my bank and confirmed my four figure balance. It was not a matter of going over a daily limit on either of the two occassions, so there was no accounting reason for the decline. Strangely enough, I did not have this problem at the same establishment on Christmas Eve. They had the same machine in place all three times.

I am just curious, what with the problems with IC Verify and cybercash if anyone knows anything about this Micros company or if it goes by any other name. Thanks.

A card can be not-authroized for many reasons. Sometimes the line from Visa to the bank is down. The response is not a decline in this case and the merchant is supposed to make a phone call and get a verbal. Most merchants break the rules and say it was decline hoping to get another card to try which is easier.
