Malcom: If you are still with us...I recall that you work in the power industry in NZ. Can you tell us WHY all the problems are happening in Australia? What about NZ? What's happening there?

Jeanne,

I think Malcom signed out. From all reports these two countries have very different infrastructure supplying elect.

Hi jeanne,

I'm still here, lurking in the background. I did sign out of the EUY2K forum as I had nothing further to add, but I am still following Y2K issues as they come up.

The problems that are occuring in Australia are mainly limited to one state, Victoria, in the south east of the country. I have not bothered commenting much on them, as they are not Y2K issues. There was one major generator failure and fire at Hazelwood but that was a mechanical failure in a PF delivery system. The remainder of the problems in Victoria are due to an ongoing industrial dispute, and if the workers wont operate the power stations then it is very hard to generate the required amount of electricity.

Here in New Zealand we are having one of our quietest summers ever as far as generation is concerned. There are no major outages although one of our competitors does have a large outage planned for the end of this month. I am not even aware of any unplanned events having occured anywhere in the electricity industry in New Zealand recently.

I do realize that there are a number of people reporting any event anywhere in the world on this forum as though they are Y2K events, however I am not yet aware of any Y2K electricity failures having occurred anywhere.
