IX Model Changes?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I read somewhere that Canon is discontinuing the IX - any truth to this? Does Canon have any new/modified APS SLRs in the works? Thank you in advance for feedback.

I believe Canon is discontinuing the EOS IX, but the IX lite remains. I'd guess they're unlikely to introduce a new APS slr anytime soon.

I have an IX and I like it very much as a compact camera - I carry it quite a bit with the 50/1.8 lens mounted and use it as my point and shoot camera. (the 50 is not really quite wide enough sometimes so I think a 35 or even a 28 might be ideal for this duty).

KEH Camera Sales (www.keh.com) always has several EOS IX's for sale, if you're interested - they generally are listed well under $300 if I recall right

Seems like a trend. Nikon has discontinued their top end APS SLR as well, leaving a "lite" version. Maybe they've both concluded that serious SLR using APS is not viable.

They are develping the IXUS series into digital format too. See below for more info on the product: http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/IXUS/IXUS.html
