i have a number of .jpg images, and would like to convert them for vcd use, i have at my disposal, adaptec vcd creator, and adobe premier.

I know with Ulead 5.0 that you can inport jpg files to you video layout but I've never tried it other than playing around and the propotions were wrong on the pictures. I did convert it to an MPG file though so I'm sure it's possible

Do not convert them to a MPEG stream, the quality will be terrible.

I missed this one.

I have for a long while produced a combination of stills and video in a presentation and funny enough I have always opened the presentation with stills in either tape or on a vcd because they are better than the video vision and that applies to DV based source video as well. I also provided as a service, a wedding album based entirely on stills set to music and on vhs tape and in all cases the quality was better than the motion video.

I now use Premier 5.1c and the stills come from scanned photographs or from digital still camera images as jpegs (early versions of premiere would only handle bmp's). The project comes off the time line as a fully fledged avi at 3.6M/s and the option is selected that ensures each frame is rendered. The encode for vcd mpeg stream follows. It does however take time to do it but who cares, you will not remember the time taken when the quality is so high, but you will remember they were bl...y awful when the process is perhaps lacking. High quality images take time to render and encode, just try mpeg2 and you will see what I mean.
