Some Michigan income tax forms arrived in Jackson County on Tuesday, a few weeks later than usual.

Residents hoping to get a jump on filing state taxes have been searching area post offices, libraries and government offices without much luck.

"I've been here 14 years, and the latest they had come until this year was Jan. 20," said Wayne Fry at the Michigan Center Post Office. "A lot of people say they haven't gotten them in the mail, either."

Boxes of state tax forms arrived to the Jackson District Library Carnegie Branch on Tuesday, and staff will distribute them to the branch libraries in the next week, a spokeswoman said.

As of this morning, area post offices, libraries outside Jackson and the Jackson County and Jackson city treasurer's offices had not received the state forms.

A State Treasury spokeswoman said shipments were delayed while starting a new distribution system.

The agency started mailing forms to individuals after Christmas. Forms went out to libraries this week, and they will go to post offices and government offices starting next week.

Those who need tax forms quickly can download them off the Internet or have them faxed.

The Web address is www.treasury.state.mi.us, and the phone number to receive forms by fax is (517) 241-8730. To receive one by mail, call (800) FORM-2-ME. The filing deadline for city, state and federal income taxes is April 15.
