Phone problems in the Midwest

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

For the past week to ten days we have been experiencing problems like phone calls in the middle of the night with no one on the line, just a computer - like beep, "all circuits are busy" responses in the mid-afternoon and "unable to complete your call, hang up and dial 0 or one", for local calls. Anybody else experiencing this?

Monday, I was on the computer (on the internet) when the phone rang. (We only have one phone line.) We have caller I.D. and it was a NO DATA SENT call, no identification as to source. It knocked my modem off the telephone line; I had to redial to get back on. This happened twice. We have had NO DATA SENT calls before --when you pick of the phone, the line is just dead, sometime there is a crackling noise, then it disconnects. We got caller ID because we got some many wierd calls like this and we wanted to find out where they were coming from. Well, after you get caller-id, you don't know anymore than you did before. The answer is the calls are coming from your phone company - probably to encourage you to get caller-id. Yes, wierd stuff is going on.
