Downloadable episodes . . .

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Hey fellow Fluxians,

I'm looking for some of the Liquid Television shorts to download, preferably in avi format. I specifically want "War", but any and all of them are fine. Does anyone know where I can find said material? Thanks loads . . .

That's right, screw the artists! They don't deserve to get paid for their work. Who needs copyrights anyhow, steal stuff and forget paying for it altogether.

That would be illegal.

-- Chaos Knight (chaosknight@cablecomm-pa.com), February 04, 2000.

Its not illegal if you already own the tapes.

Anyone want to donate webspace? My roommate has a DC30 capture card :)

-- divinity (divinity@u.washington.edu), February 12, 2000.

I'm talking about making the episodes available for download. It is illegal. Period. And to say "Oh,its legal if you have the tapes." To have the videos in say, real video or avi format, yes, it is. But its illegal to distribute them.

Why do you think I've never done that myself? (well, there was that whole Night thing, but let's not get into that right now)

-- Chaos Knight (chaosknight@cablecommpa.com), February 12, 2000.

that's true, but only if you distribute them to people who do not already own the tapes. Imitate napster and say it is only legal to download these files if you own the tapes.. if not.. go away.

-- divinity (divinity@u.washington.edu), February 12, 2000.

That never holds up. The emulation scene tried that and it didn't work. Don't tempt fate here. If Mtv gets wind of that, they'll shut the site down, and everyone other aeon site they can find just out of principle. Trust me, I thought of this a long time ago, and I've never come up with a way of doing it. I digitized the liquid tv episodes a long time ago, and even did a few half hour ones. I've toyed with the notion of throwing caution to the wind, and handing them out on may occasions. But the fear of legal retribution and that Mtv might decide to wipe out all flux-related websites has prevented me from going through with it. Now, if someone can convince Mtv to allow people to download the episodes, I'll make them available. Until then, I'm not giving them to anybody, and I strongly recommend you don't either.

Its very simple: distribution of episodes will ultimately allow the episodes to end up in the hands of people who didn't buy the tapes which = loss of sales for Mtv. Not many companies enjoy losing money. This could end up killing most of the Aeon Flux communities' online presence. And what if Mtv decided to sue you over loss of sales. Don't think it can't happen.

Well, MTV has now made the episodes available for download (RealVideo). In fact, they have totally updated the Aeon Flux section of the website, including a RealVideo interview with Peter Chung and a couple of other goodies. The strange thing though, is that if you just go to www.mtv.com you'll never find the new pages. There is no longer a link to an "animation" page, even though it still exists. You have to manually type in the URL - http://www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan/animation/aeon. Am I just missing something here? It seems like a hopeful sign to me.

-- John McDevitt (JuntMonkey@aol.com), March 20, 2000.

Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, it is strange how MTV is hiding their Aeon pages, maybe someone thought it'd be cool to have a secret site for those "in the know". Or it could just be sloppiness on their part...

FUck MTV , and all those other corperate fucks , i have plenty of aeon flux thats been encoded to avi, divx etc and theres still plenty of places on the net to retrieve it without the blood thirsty corperates finding out e.g irc is a great place where web sites are not needed , and no its not like napster (there is still 100's of napster clones out there that havent been shut down ), its free enterprise of whoever has brought the product in the first place. So dont give us your bullshit about being hunted down , or your web site shutdown , its about time we stood up to these fucks.... they can go to hell for all i care...but ill still keep on downloading...its just an excuse for them to suck more money out of us.....as allways

Aeon for download? Was you taken out of a baboon? It would ruin the beauty.

-- Frostbite (krooks@agnesscott.edu), December 13, 2001.

Note: by "beauty" I mean the quality of the animation. And the music, too.

-- Frostbite (krooks@agnesscott.edu), December 13, 2001.

Fuck you frostbite you capitalist shithead. There is no way to police file sharing programs like kazaa. You have nothing to worry about, the only ones that will be prosecuted are the opperators. .... Down with Big Brother!

-- James Russell (notgivingitout@aol.com), January 07, 2002.

i find some episodes on kazaa. anyone know of any other programs where i can find episodes floating around?........

-- henry rollands (aphex_19@hotmail.com), January 15, 2002.

People who are afraid of the legal issues concerning downloading Aeon FLux movies worry too much! Download whatever you want! I DO!

-- Manuel Medina (manuelmedina21@hotmail.com), April 02, 2002.

Well OK there Manuel. If YOU say it's alright.

-- Logo (Vosepherus@aol.com), April 08, 2002.

And fuck me running. Everyone on the board has made some strong arguments about posting Flux esp. but alias no one has the conviction to post up a web site and share. Anyone mind telling me where I can snag some esp. because Kazaa has jack. Thank you

-- Pingo (Pingomalingo@yahoo.com), April 18, 2002.

Well, now...we're all up in a tizzy aren't we? Forgive me if I seem out of date here...but the original framers of Copyright law seem to have pointed to a work of artistic expression becoming part of the public domain after a period of between 5 and 10 years...when was Aeon Flux (the actual tv show, not the pilots on Liquid TV) aired originally? Just one thought. Another point I saw made was "Okay, let's screw the artists". I personally don't believe that anything had been done with the "intellectual property" of Mr. Chung in quite a few years, am I right? The last gasp I saw was that little book that was printed...what...five years ago? Six? At any rate, Mr. Chung doesn't even have a place to say what can or cannot happen with his work, because MTV (ahh, isn't THAT a misnomer now? But I digress) owns ALL the rights to distribute and promote Aeon Flux. It's quite a shame, really...MTV seems to want to completely deny any involvement with the show altogether...Same goes for the Maxx, the Head, and even that venerable pioneer Liquid Television. Guess such subversiveness doesn't fit with their [mtv's] general search for what's Popular and what's not. Guess that's why Zim's dead as well. So, I'm all for public distribution of Aeon Ep's...in fact, I'm busy looking for some as I type. I wonder if Mr. Chung would feel the same way?

It occures to me that there isnt enough a following to any old school Mtv to matter so much. I dont know about all of you but as a 17 yr old growing up in a middle class neighborhood, i must say no one i knows has heard of any decent showing of culture since curt (kurt, kurtt and how ever else he wanted it spelled)cobain. social cultures gone to hell my droogs and no one can save it. The only thing left to do is recreat. Im not saying forget the things which inspire us(Aeon, Maxx, ect...) but what i am sying is to stop complaining about the corprut giants and recreat pop culture in the way we want it. Become the Giant and slay anyone who might stand in your way. i occures to me thats what peter chung must of had to do for his 15 min of fame and i see no reason not to follow in his foot steps. We are the future, so stop winning and be the future, it is are resposabilty after all. thank you, good night.

There are some pretty good rips out there made from the ĉon videos mtv released, but it seems almost impossible to find these episodes anywhere: 2- 2 Night 3- 1 Utopia or Deutoronopia 3- 5 The Demiurge 3- 8 Ether Drift Theory My soul for the missing episodes. If you are holding any info on these please speak forth and releive the wait many fellow Ĉon Flux fans have endured. -Raul Duke

www.winmx.com filsharing program, find them on there

-- Flux (spam@spam.com), March 08, 2003.

yeah "night" can be found on kazaa and such, but it seems all of the videos on the "operative terminus"(if anyone wishes to share, please do, it might be worth it for you, i have lots of expensive software) dvd seem to be hard to catch. I mean there must of been at least one bored yokle out there that would of had the precious time to rip it on to the net. it costs fuckin 100$ bucks now (used) No fuckin way Mtv is gettin me there, maybe if it was going to Peter Chung himself Id maybe consider but him and many others (ex. Mike Judge) have been getting butt-fucked by MTV and other huge corps. Its actually their fault in many ways but they fell under the trickery as many artists do in America. DRL

winmx fucks up my computer for some reason. Is that on gnutella also?

-- (jollythegrump@lycos.com), April 04, 2003.

When did all this anger and swearing start here?

Thanks for the MTV link!

-- Mark (nadar@BigPoppaPump.zzn.com), April 05, 2003.

Wait no the link doesn't work, I guess I take back the thank you.

Try Kazaa

Anyone know the real name of the character in "The Head?"

PS. I have a wiener

-- Bentley T Wit (BentleyTWit@yahoo.com), August 23, 2003.

I used someone elses email because Im a greedy bastard that doesnt want to share, I guess thats a crime. It is the right of someone who has paid money for anything to do with it how ever he or she pleases. If I buy a hamburger is it a crime now to share it with a starving man? If the burger is from Mcdonalds yes because that would be murder, but otherwise it aint nobodys buisness what the hell Im listening to, watching or thinking. Any whose got the time to be interested in that is one FUCT UP MUTHERFUCKER and they can take their eh Ive said my piece. If anyone here remembers anything about rebeliion and fighting back from their past or who have done what theyre told to do their whole lives need to stop and rethink about why they are living....if thats what you want to call it to make you feel better.
