T3 - Gauntlet settings rule change

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Hopefully this will be for the better - Mark Longridge has changed TG settings to allow 750 health! So just use default settings and you'll be alright - but I don't think we're still allowing secret codes.

if you recorded with 700, I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping the recording, since you used less health than the new settings.

Hopefully this will satisfy everyone...

I was able to save 650 for a test and no secret options, was there a problem doing this? you have to hit the save key (warrior magic button) which is by default mapped to "ALT" all the way around in service mode and then hit escape while still in service mode, this seemed to save the settings, i was able to restart mame and it still had 750 saved. Don't press the warrior Fire key, by default mapped to "CNTRL" because it will erase the settings you just set!

Here was most of our problems: although it "saved" the new settings, I went straight back to the default(750 health) when we came out of test mode. So it's like we didn't change anything, although we unofficially did. This is why Mark and I changed the rules - which I hope makes things a lot easier for everyone to toil with :)

Try not coming out of "service mode" before you hit escape, i.e. leave it in service mode saved when you quit mame, then run mame (you'll start up in service mode get out of it and then try again?) This did seem to work for me, but maybe i needed to try escaping and running mame one more time to make sure it really saved it (at least it saved it between two mame invokations.)

Leaving it in service mode won't work when recording. When you start recording a game, it won't start up in service mode. Getting it to remember the 700 is not too hard, but it ignores those settings (including starting up in service mode) when recording because these settings are NOT in the .cfg file (which is loaded when recording), but in the .hi file (which is NOT loaded when recording). So every time you record, it will use the defaults, regardless of the changes you made in service mode and regardless of whether you hit escape while in service mode.

This problem is fixed in 36b15 (and maybe in some earlier versions as well), so it is possible to record a game starting at 700 health there, but that does not help us any at this point.

Cheers, Ben Jos.
