Anyone have problems with "certification expiration" on the net?

Early in January [or late December] ... I downdloaded AVP Anti-Virus software which was supposed to be free to 90 days.

Today a window came up, saying my certificate had expired.

Earlier this month I tried to order something off the net, and got the message that my certificate had expired. So, I emailed Netscape. Apparently I had version 4.5 and needed an upgrade. So, I ordered the CD, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I'm curious if anyone else has run into this. I haven't even attempted to order anything off the net, because of this expired certificate stuff.

I was just wondering how prevalent this might be. If it were widespread, it could affect earnings for internet companies ... if there were other people like me, who can't order because of "expired certificates".

Go to the Netscape website and download what you need from there.

Download from the net? Easier said than done.

Now, maybe it's just a coincidence ... but since the 1st week in January I haven't been able to get the same type of connection I'm accustomed to.

Usually I'd get on @56,700bps. Occasionally it would be in the 24,000 range. Since the 1st week of January ... it's been primarly 7,900 - 14,400 bps [instead of 56,700 bps]. The last two days I've been running into only 2,900 bps!!!

At first I thought it was my local ISP. So, I tried AOL which is my back-up. Same problem.

I talked to neighbors, and they were running into the same problem. They thought it was their ISP - both of theirs are different from mine.

So, I can only surmise ... we've been having some telephone problems since January 1.

I've only been able to get on last two weeks @14,400 bps. Makes it impossible to download anything.

Slow download speeds are a frequent problem for me. We are on old telephone lines and last week the repairman spent 3 hours to get ours "back up to speed."

I have a similar problem. I have tried to update Netscape. It takes over 5 hours. Unfortunetly, the downloading got stuck at the very last minute. I will have to do it all over again. But will it work?

I encounter a screen like that every time I enter my hotmail account, since the rollover.

Most of the time when you get the 'certificate expired' screen, you can just press 'continue' and go on. It may appear because certain software needs to be updated or because you PC is backdated. I had my PC backdated for a while and that's when I saw it. I just ignorred it. Also, slow connection speeds are due to phone line problems which may exist between your PC and your ISP or (in my case) from the ISP to the web (via Sprint line).

My Mac software told me that it is a glitch in the browser, but that it really doesn't mean what it says. I was told to simply click the okay-go-ahead-anyway button and I would still get a secure link.

If I do that, I get the site and the little symbol for secure link. It is annoying, but will work until you can get an upgrade.

02-01-00 11:16PM Have been having the same modem speed problems, with AOL (in the midwest). Since the first of the year, have not been able to connect any faster than 49,555 (on a 56K modem). Have two different computers and two different ISP's and its the same connection speed, no matter which modem, computer, or ISP. Been having another wierd problem, the mouse curser falls off the screen and lays on the bottom (no not drunk or drinking). It responds normally though when you move the mouse on the pad.
