540EZ Distance Scale (m or ft)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I know this is a simple question, and i'm pretty sure i know the answer, but, when using the flash in TTL mode the distance scale shows in meters (not feet). One of my lenses is canon grey market the other USA (at least that's what i paid for). When should the meter display metric and when should it display feet?

John.

Answers

Inside of the battery compartment is a little switch.... it changes the display from meters to feet.

Do you have an owner's manual? Dave is correct.

Thanks for the answer. I will check this out tonight. I thought the answer was going to be that the flash automatically reads the origin of the lens (Grey Mkt or USA). I've read both the owners manual and the book from Silver Pixel Press (540EZ), cover to cover, and do not remember reading anything about this switch. i will have to look thru both again.

Thanks again.

The info is correct. One of the differences between the 430EZ and 540EZ is that there are two models of the 430, one reads out in feet, one reads out in meters and you can't switch. The 540 is switchable.

The origin of the lens makes no difference of course.

An additional thanks for the advice given here. I had been putting up with the scale in meters on my 550ex for several months now. (Although getting used to using SI units probably wouldn't hurt me at all.)
