Part Of Main Street Closed By Gas Leak Source: The Hartford Courant Publication date: Jan 27, 2000

A natural gas leak forced police to close part of Main Street in the North End for more than nine hours Wednesday.

The leak was reported about 2 p.m. in a two-block area between Ferry Street and Rapallo Avenue.

Members of the Middletown Fire Department responded to the call and detected the presence of gas in the air. Firefighters called representatives of Yankee Gas to help with the investigation.

A small leak was located underground and was still being repaired about 11:30 p.m.

Carl,

Thanks for the post. Where do you live, by the way? I am within 15 miles of Middletown, CT and your post is the first I heard of this gas leak.

BTW, after reading the story, it appears that the town this occurred in is Middletown, CT, not Hartford. Middletown is approx. 10-15 miles south of Hartford.

Jimmy
