A Final Civil (sic) Posting Shot From Decker At De Bunkie

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Aimed at his old friends here but 'civil' because anything he says is, by definition, civil, right?

"An old friend sent me the word "Debunkers" was headed into retirement. Fortunately, a hot link was included (my Y2K bookmarks were deleted weeks ago.)

The iron tongue of midnight has tolled twelve... at least for Y2K. For the reasonable, the hysteria is over. Oh, I'm sure there are still survivalists scanning the horizon for doomsday. The conspiracy theorists will build a Time Bomb 2001, and 2002, and 2003....

Someone will invent the next great threat. The usual suspects will capitalize on the fear. And there will Internet fora filled with misinformation, speculation, faulty logic and poor reasoning. And places like BFI and Debunker will arise as vigorous (if offbeat) countervailing forces.

Perhaps our debate was just a tempest in a teapot. Perhaps the voices echoed beyond the few small fora where the debate was joined. Honestly, I don't know. I'd like to think the pages upon pages of debate helped.

In the end, the retirement of Debunker is a rational decision... a fitting final rebuke to those who are still searching for ashes to sift through."

Double Decker as always.

In the end, the retirement of Debunker is a rational decision

That's the only rational action ever seen regarding that forum. Good riddance.

It is rational to close Debunker because there is nothing left to debunk. The rollover did the "final debunking" of Y2K hype and mis-information.

The question is, what will become of tb2k without all of those posts at debunker's to alude to? You will be talking to yourselves. Why would they close it just to come here? If there was anything left here to debunk reguarding Y2K, debunker would stay open to dubunk it. But alas, there is not.

Don't get your hopes up too much, the people still exist, and should the need arise they will be back.

They can't quit yet...there's still crop circles, food flavorings and fluoridated water and...

How come so many people come to this site to say there are no problems. Maybe they should take the time to read about all the people getting quadruple billed be their credit cards, all of the gas explosions, the rising oil prices, etc. No one said exactly what 'it' would have an effect on. No one ever said it all had to go down as the date switched, just to be prepared in case it does. In fact, many people seem to be glad they prepared, because of the unusual weather occurances.
