BTW I got call today from a factory complaining that the date on their PC was 4-Jan-1980. It had been so for the last month and they were getting tired of having to correct the date in the data entry of their program. It had not occurred to them, nor did they appear to know how until told over the phone, how to set the date on the PC. How much does this kind of thing cost in lost efficiency? As much as it takes to reach the irritation threshold, obviously. Marty Sanders once described this as the "bother:benefit ratio". How much did it cost in economic loss or external impact? Nothing - in this case.
