DHRANGADHRA (Gujarat): Devji Dhamecha isn't a popular man in the Little Rann. Coming from an agaria (salt worker) family, he was expected to protect the interest of the community, which braves hostile conditions in the vast desert expanse to produce salt worth nearly Rs 100 crore annually.

But Devji has decided to root for the Indian Wild Ass, whose habitat has been threatened by the salt industry thriving within the 5,000 sq km earmarked in 1973 as the only wild ass sanctuary in the country.

I thought this might be an Indian equivalent to Jeff Foxworthy "Redneck" jokes, but alas, it was an article about donkeys.

Lame attempt at Humor: You might be a Redneck if you think a wild ass habitat is your local bar...
