Ukraine Restarts Chernobyl After Minor Problem

KIEV, Feb 1, 2000 -- (Reuters ) Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant said on Monday it had restarted its last functioning reactor after a minor malfunction caused a shutdown last week. The station's duty engineer told Reuters by telephone from Chernobyl, site of the world's worst civil nuclear disaster in 1986, that reactor three had reached "minimum capacity" and was due to be plugged back into the national grid early on Tuesday.

The 1,000 megawatt reactor was stopped last Friday after a valve was found to be leaking radioactive water.
