I don't know who "JOHN DEERE" is (assuming that you're not claiming that I'm a tractor), but I'd like to know what I do to collect when you're proven wrong.

Let me see if I've got this right: I don't know you, you don't know me, but when I said I wanted to collect on an open bet you made, you fly into a libelous tirade against me?

Do you make a regular practice of stepping on your dick, or is today really special?

Thread Title:

I've got a hundred bucks that says Ron Schwartz is JOHN DEERE....

(sorry, thought I grabbed that; doesn't make much sense without, huh? Oh, and typo gotts should be "go to", damn fingers...grrr...)

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 28, 2000.

Hey Z1X4Y7

Should you have posted this as "OT humor"?

-- justwondering (justwondering@trollsaredangerous.com), January 28, 2000.

justwondering:

Not for me. I just thought that the people who have been here for some time might like to know. [Hokie is, of course, correct in the thread that he chose; that emasculated turkey ;0); note, from my understanding that is a hokie; also note that Tech is not my favorite team, but we can disagree]. Amazingly, enough, I was interested in Anita's discussion of TB2000. You should read it.

Best wishes,,,,

A lot of the people who supposedly left are still here, just using new names. Some of them use their big farewell post as an ego trip to see what other people will say about them, and how many will people will say how sad they are to see them leave.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 29, 2000.

Hawk, what evidence is that opinion based upon? Is that a personal opinion, or do you have .doc? Just curious.

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 29, 2000.

We go out of our way to create trouble! Leave this crap where it belongs, over at DeBunkie. Are you sending them an invitation?

-- Tommy Rogers (Been there@Just a Thought.com), January 29, 2000.

Miracles never cease. I agree with Hawk. I bet all those who have kissed this place good-bye are still posting. It takes more than a farewell letter to shake this place. :)

-- (I'm@pol.ly), January 29, 2000.

Hokie, I don't know if Hawk has data to back it up, but I suspect Hawk is correct, just from knowing standard BBS behavior norms at this point. I've lost count of the dramatic farewells I've witnessed on message boards, only to see the "I'm never going back" perpetrator slink back in quietly and then escalate to the same behavior that made people hope they would leave. I left a bulletin board last year because the sysop was allowing ad hominem attacks and troll-type behavior to disrupt the messages under the banner of "free speech." When I email friends from that board, they still express amazement that I not only left but actually stayed away. That to me says that keeping one's word is not the norm for dramatic departures. It's all part of the show, kids.

-- Firemouse (firemouse@fcmail.com), January 29, 2000.

I think you are all right.

Who would leave this board based on the info provided?

Even if I had done some type of "farewell", I'm sure I'd lurk on occasion, my self-control would be seriously compromised when I really had an opinion I wanted to express. I'd have to speak my peace, unfortunately, I might want to be hidden because of my previous "good byes". Oh well.

Better not to leave at all, too much info still pouring in. On a variety of subjects.

Still in my absorbing mode, myself!

-- Michael (michaelteever@buffalo.com), January 29, 2000.

I think some people felt that since the rollover happened and things are as they are, that it was time to leave because there was not much to talk about any more.

I think they found that although the reason for posting s gone, the interaction and sense of community still exists and they are drawn back by that. Same as here :o)

It's not a sin to be wrong you know.....

Hi, Z:

I was a bit disappointed that you didn't point me somewhere where some of the Y2k pessimists hang out these days. I know a few of them still post here at TB2000 under new handles because they've told me so.

You read that little thing I wrote about how TB2000 has morphed,eh, Z? Do you find it fairly accurate, or would you make corrections?

-- Anita (notgiving@anymore.com), January 30, 2000.

Anita:

I don't try to predict the future of the world, let alone what is going to interest people on this forum. But yes, I would agree with most of what you said.

Best wishes,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), January 30, 2000.

Anita:

"I was a bit disappointed that you didn't point me somewhere where some of the Y2k pessimists hang out these days. I know a few of them still post here at TB2000 under new handles because they've told me so."

By the way, you and Flint are the most pessimistic people that I listen to. You and I know where you are. What else do you want?

Once again, best wishes,,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), January 30, 2000.

Anita:

One final note. The two of you really break-up my general optimism. You should get a better outlook on life.

Best wishes,,,

I have a question, as I saw that thread re; ronnie, why did he call him a homo whatever bast##@ anyway? What was the point, not that he has one ever, but I really would like to know.

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), January 30, 2000.

Consumer:

There was a time that these and, other forums, provided useful information. All of the others have degraded. You are looking at degredation.

Best wishes,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), January 30, 2000.

Z:

You're a humorous person...refreshingly humorous. Thanks. [I'll get my humor back when these Y2k freezes lift.] Of course I won't be posting to internet fora when that happens, but it COULD keep me from growling at the wall for no apparent reason.

-- Anita (notgiving@anymore.com), January 31, 2000.

Not all degradation is graceful.

I've seen some sore winners.
