Is anyone else experiancing Internet Problems 2pmPST?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have PacBell DSL as my ISP, at about 1:30 lots of sites just disapeared or got real real slow. I have tried about 20 of the links in my bookmarks and only 1-2 work. TimeBomb works fine.

Any body else having problems?

Yes, ATT Global and IBM have disappeared. You may have heard of those two companies. I think both have more than a little Internet/website expertise.

I have mail at both, can't get to either pop3 server. Can't get to their support page to complain.

I tried to pull up some sales info on S/390 for a client. Can't get to www.s390.ibm.com. Given that this could be a good sale for IBM, it's unthinkable that they're closed.

Both have been dead since about 2:00 PM EST, it's 5:00 PM EST now.

Un-F***ing believable. Oh, and the stock market is melting down. And before I forget, gas went up another 10 cents around here this week.

I apologize for the harsh language but I've been trying to get the S/390 info all afternoon.

Been really slow, lots of sites timeing out.. yesterday and today both..

We're a UUNet customer. No reported trouble on this end. No problem getting out. Traffic flow here for the day is well within the normal range (i.e. no anomalous drops in bandwidth utilization and the routers are happy).

If there's a problem, it does not appear to be impacting our traffic.

I wish every day was this smooth.

Cory,
Just tried www.s390.ibm.com from here, no Joy. Server not found.
Time: 05:15 ET

BTW: located in Dallas.

My ISP was out of business completely from early morning yesterday until about 12:30 PST today. Evidently the "backbone" for the internet between Sultan and Seattle was broken. Engineers were supposed to show up last night and fix it, but all the ISP got was an no show and an excuse, (in a whiny tone)"the problem must be on your side, there's nothing wrong with our hardware" from the phone co.

Oh well. My house is really clean now.....:)

Glad I read this post. I wondered why a website Ed Yourdon recommended today (his HumptyDumpty) kept saying it was not there, where he ought to know, if anyone, it should be. Wanted his book list before going to library en route home. Shucks!

I have Mindspring for personal use - working Ok

For Business IBM Net(was sold to ATT recently)- can't get anywhere, even by using IPs. Started ~1:30 PM.

From my ISP...

Due to a major ATT Internet Backbone line being down web pages most webpages, such as, yahoo.com or microsoft.com, are not accessible. NCCN has contacted Pacific Bell which feeds internet to NCCN/SCCN and they have contacted ATT and are working on the problem. There is no estimate time for correcting this problem as of 2:20 pm. NCCN and other pages such as www.aub.com are accessible. You will still be able to receive e-mail from NCCN and a few sources but not from yahoo or other places. But when the line comes back up your e-mail should be delievered and not lost.

-- Sheri (wncy2k@nccn.net), January 28, 2000.

Anyone take a look at Debunker's site recently? Close for lack of participation? Naw.....

-- Wondering... (SOL@ourdoorstep.com), January 28, 2000.

Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 15:09:03 -0800 (PST) From: NCCN Administration To: allusers@nccn.net Subject: Internet Problems

Full access to the Internet was restored. Pacfic Bell had a major Backbone for the internet from ATT go down for about 45 minutes on Friday, Jan 28th. This effected outside web pages and e-mail to be backuped. All is well as of 2:45 pm.
